Tricky Rieslings

As will be known by now, WineStein matches meals on all sorts of properties found in different wine types in order to come to a good wine pairing. In general, that's an approach that works pretty well to very good with the vast majority of almost 200 wine types currently active within the system..
We have one troublemaker, though: riesling wines. hebben echter één lastige klant: de rieslingwijnen. Meanwhile, we've dug a little into this and came up with a bit of an idea why. Rieslings appear to be two-faced: in fruity character and freshness they resemble many fresh&fruity, high acidity and generally less complex wines such as Spanish Rueda, classic Muscadet or an Orvieto secco. At the same time, however, dry rieslings - particularly higher qualities - also possess gastronomic qualities that make these wines pair excellently with richer and more complex dishes. And those qualities brings dry rieslings much closer to serious chardonnays or higher qualities of e.g. white rhone wines, in terms of matching potential that is. Even when we are talking very different types of wines now
This appears to be one of the reasons for occasionally disappointing riesling scores, and we're working hard to try and get WineStein to improve here. User feedback got us on track of this, so we do appreciate further experience and feedback on results with riesling.
