A very powerful, deeply-coloured, strongly black-fruit-dominated and tannin-rich fortified (20% alcohol) red wine with residual sweetness, from the Douro valley in Portugal. The highest quality Port that is only declared in top years. Gets two years’ barrel ageing and then ages in bottle. Young: very powerful, unintegrated residual sweetness and tannins, inaccessible. Ready to drink: powerful, grapey fruit, residual sweetness integrating. Mature: integrated sweetness and tannins, very complex and intense.
