A deep-coloured, modern-made and robust (14+%) red wine in the Bordeaux style from the New World with dominant black fruit, substantial wood ageing and lots of body, but with milder tannins than a Bordeaux. Comparable wines from other New World countries also fall into this category. At their best when young, as some owines tend to lose fruit after a few years. Young: lots of black fruit and wood-dominated. Ready to drink: powerful, full, still lots of wood influence. Mature: at their best, beautifully compact, sometimes losing their structure quickly.
